Little Updates

Well I haven't had a whole lot to post, winter weather has been shutting everything down around here. We normally don't get so much snow, ice, sleet, freezing temperatures, so nobody really knows how to react to it all.

Sindri has had about a week off, and with all this cold, he has been a bit spicy. We have a jumper show in about two days so my normal rides have changed a bit to accommodate the amount of work we need beforehand.

The arena was soaking

This cold has to leave soon, because i'm sick of it. Last week I helped out with shift at the barn, and the top pastures water faucet wasn't working and the boys were completely out of water... So obviously we needed to get some water for them. Take in mind it was about 32 degrees outside, so everything was frozen, it was also just after the ice storm we got and everything was coated in a layer of ice. So we had to take the full water buckets from the barn office (about 15 buckets each holding about 5 gallons of water) and we put all of the buckets into the bed of the truck and take them up to the top pasture. Once we got up there we had to back down to where the troughs were at and take each bucket and dump it in over the fence, that part wasn't too hard but then we had to dump in about 17.5 gallons from a big bucket we had full of water, that one was a challenge because of how heavy it was. We had three people to help get it over the fence and into the trough - one person in the bed of the truck, one person right next to the truck to help lift it onto the fence and one person inside the fence to dump it in - let's just say we needed a new method because we got soaked.

My rides have been moved around a lot lately with all the cold and we have a trip coming up to go to a Boyd Martin clinic in SC ( not to ride but we are auditing and helping with jump crew) and then were heading down to Florida to see the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Qualifier at WEC.

The jumper show is valentines themed so i'm planning my outfit out a little bit (we love to go all out for the themes) So far I have...

  • Red saddle pad and matching shirt
  • Red paint and glitter to put hearts on him
  • Sparkly red cord to braid into his tail and put a bow at the end (doing the same thing with my hair)
  • red, pink, and purple markers to draw on my face and the other riders faces maybe something like a heart with the initials of the horse and ride in it Ex. me and sindri would be M+S inside the heart
  • I have a red valentines day scarf type thing, it's not long enough to go around his neck so im not sure where i'm gonna use that...
  • Red rubber bands and ribbon, i want to do a diamond braid type style but try and make it look like hearts?
The color theme is red, pink, and purple but im going for a red theme because I don't have any pink or purple.
